When Will We See The Update?

The NBA’s offseason is set to kick off with a flurry on Monday when trades can reportedly be completed. The NBA Draft is on Wednesday and free agency can begin just after that, so many virtual hoops fans are wondering when they will receive the roster update in NBA 2K21.

While nothing is official, no one should be expecting an update as soon as the draft is complete. The process of producing renders for the rookies can take time, especially considering it’s not easy to get players scanned for the game during a pandemic.

2K does have the option of having someone from their art team create render from reference images, but that’s not the first resort. Even if that is the route 2K takes in this season, that process requires some time to complete as well.

2K should still have the renders for LaMelo Ball, Cole Anthony, James Wiseman and a few others included in this year’s draft class. Each of them were a part of a MyTeam series for NBA 2K20. Some of them have gotten different hairstyles, but if nothing else, those renders will offer an accurate depiction of the newest members of the NBA family.

Other top players, such as Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton, Israel’s Deni Avdija, and Killian Hayes will have to be produced in another way. The easiest update 2K can make on the offseason front has to do with free-agent signings and trades. However, even those have to be made official before 2K can push them out in the game.

If you’re looking to start using the updated rosters as soon as possible, you might be better served downloading one of the more realistic ones on 2K share until the official ones are released next month, more than likely just before the December 22 start date.
