NBA 2K22 is preparing to bring the well established basketball game into a new age in 2021, but won’t forget to improve the title on PS4.
Although the game continues to gain traction next gen, here’s everything we know so far about NBA 2K22 on PS4.
Latest- Leak hints at possible cover star
Just in the last day, a leak was posted on the subreddit r/GamingLeaksAndRumours as it relates to NBA 2K22’s cover athlete. It says Dirk Nowitzki will be this year’s cover star for the game’s legend edition.
The account that posted it puts the leak into context by saying it should be taken with a grain of salt. However, the leaker also mentioned that he’s getting this from a source “more or less directly from 2K.” The leak also included information about some of other 2K games.
The leak was then shared by the r/NBA2K Twitter account, and involved a reply from Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier which makes the leak more legitimate.
It’s important to note that the leak isn’t saying Dirk Nowitzki is the main cover star, but only for the legend edition. Therefore, it doesn’t contradict the rumours that Mavericks guard Luka Doncic is the favorite to be the main cover athlete.
NBA 2K22 Reveal Trailer
As of right now, details are still scarce on NBA 2K22, but that will change in the coming months as the game is officially announced.
The first glimpse we’ll likely get of NBA 2K22 should be through the reveal trailer, which has been released in June for prior versions of the NBA 2K series.
We could see a reveal during E3 2021, but NBA 2K22 may also continue a trend of 2K Sports not having a significant presence at that event.
Either way, we should expect the first major trailer for NBA 2K22 to land in June of 2021.
Release Date on PS4
As of now, there’s no confirmed release date for NBA 2K22 on PS5, but that can’t stop us from getting an idea of when to expect the game’s arrival.
Things went a bit differently last year as the title launched first on current gen and later on next gen, but it’s more likely that we’ll instead see a simultaneous launch for all platforms.
Looking at the way it’s landed before, the most likely release date for NBA 2K22 on PS4 is September 10, 2021.
Price on PS4
While next gen versions will carry upgraded graphics and exclusive features or game modes like The City, you’ll find current gen excels in reliable pricing.
NBA 2K22 is likely to to cost a full $70 on next gen platforms, but players can expect it to instead remain at the previously steady standard on current gen.
NBA 2K22 on PS4 will likely be $60 for the Standard Edition, with upgraded versions with extra rewards likely to be priced between $85 and $99 in total.
NBA 2K22 Pre Order
NBA 2K22 on PS4 is not yet available to pre order, and that may not change for at least a few weeks.
NBA 2K21 sent pre orders live on July 2, 2020, but that was also done after the cover athletes had been revealed for the title.
Current Gen Game Modes
Unfortunately, we probably won’t see newly innovated game modes like The City backtrack from next gen to current gen.
However, we could see NBA 2K22 try to spice up existing modes like MyTEAM and MyPLAYER in order to make up for the lack of The City.
With supply still limited for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, NBA 2K22 will likely end up with significantly more players on current gen, so 2K Sports can’t neglect their current gen improvements.
