Week of Welcome features exciting student events, activities | FIU News

Whether you are attending classes in-person, fully online or opted for a hybrid modality, the Division of Academic and Student Affairs is kicking off the spring semester with an incredible Week of Welcome (WOW) lineup that includes both fun virtual and socially distanced, in-person events.

Festivities welcome new and returning students and introduce Panthers to a variety of resources available at FIU. Choose from the list below on the many ways you can get involved this spring semester.


FIU Resources Fair —Learn about the online resources available to you through various departments. 

Noon to 2 p.m.


LGBTQA Initiatives —Meet the LGBTQA Initiatives team and find out how to get involved/support LGBTQA students.

Noon to 2 p.m.


SGA Presidential Address & Senate Meeting —Hear Alex Valdes give her SGA presidential address and attend the Senate Meeting.

4 p.m. to 6 p.m. 


Taste of Camp – Panther Camp —Meet Panther Camp facilitators and get a sneak peek into a fun weekend at Panther Camp!

5 p.m. to 6 p.m.


Sorority Fair —Is Greek Life right for you? Find out what FIU’s sororities have to offer.

7 p.m. to 9 p.m.


United Wesley Community Night —Join United Wesley (one of FIU’s Christian campus ministries) for a time of worship and fellowship!

Life Skills Series: Zoom While You Clean 

Set yourself up for a successful semester with a clean space to complete schoolwork! Learn tips to create a clear space and a clear mind.

Keep it Cool with HLP & the Peer Mentor Program

FIU in DC Fly-In Series Info Session 

Ever wondered how policies are made or considered a career in shaping our nation? Don’t miss this informative session about the FIU in DC Fly-In program, a three-day experiential seminars in D.C. available to students passionate about a variety of issues.

How to Library (when you can’t go to the Library) 

Need help? This session will cover checking out materials (books, laptops, and more), doing online library research, and how to get help from a librarian.

SPC’s traditional concert is going virtual! Make sure to pre-register to receive the activation station box so you can bring the UPRoar Spirit to your home!

That’s So Queer: Meet Us! 

Join LGBTQA Initiatives for an informal discussion around various topics related to queer identities and experiences.

Mr. and Ms. Roarthon: Meet the Contestants 

Meet this year’s Mr. and Ms. Roarthon pageant contestants. Learn about their passion for the organization and why they fundraise for the kids of our local Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Plus, find out how you too can support the cause!

Tattoo Illustration Workshop

Learn to draw real tattoo art while also re-living a world-class artist’s amazing experiences tattooing over the scars of terror survivors in Israel. Hear about Southpaw’s personal journey from despair to triumph in overcoming a physical disability of his own.

Join the Women’s Center as they interview entrepreneurs in the skincare industry. This is a part of our Skincare with Summer Series, which occurs bi-weekly on Friday’s. Learn about the ins and outs of skincare, how to properly care for your skin, and the importance of self-care.

MLK Day of Service 

The MLK Day of Service became a National Day of Service in 1994 and has been known as a “Day On, Not a Day Off” ever since. Its purpose is to bring to life Dr. King’s teachings by bringing the community together and celebrating his vision of freedom and a unified diverse community. Every year, FIU students, faculty, staff, and friends of the university come together to create solutions to social problems in the community.
