Still looking to score a PS5? Tips on securing one this summer and a guide to Fourth of July sales.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — It’s been over a year-and-a-half since the PS5 was released in fall 2020, but some gamers are still having trouble getting their hands on the next-generation Sony gaming console.

Whether you’re still looking to secure a system, or hoping to find some new games and accessories at a discounted price, early Fourth of July sales could be the place to look.

“If you’re lucky enough to own a PS5 console, now is a great chance to save on some of the best PS5 games and PS5 accessories. You can get everything you need for a whole summer of gaming in these early 4th of July PS5 sales,” wrote Rory Mellon of Tom’s Guide.

PS5 RESTOCKS

Supply chain issues and the ongoing microchip shortage have severely limited inventory levels of the PS5 since its release, with most retailers selling out of the console within minutes of each restock.

It can be difficult to keep track of all the different retailers that are selling the console, but frequently checking online PS5 restock trackers can help prospective buyers know when the system is in stock or expected to return to stores.

One way to increase the chances of scoring a PS5 is to register for invite-only restocks on Amazon. Not everyone who registers will be accepted, but those who do will receive an email with a unique link to purchase the console that will be valid for 72 hours.

With Prime Day set to begin on Tuesday, July 12, experts are expecting an Amazon restock to occur in the coming weeks, meaning registering for an invite now could boost your chances of securing a system in the near future.

Shoppers can also register for invite-only restocks from the Sony online store, though just like with Amazon, registering does not guarantee an invitation during the next restock.

PS5 GAMES

For those already in possession of a PS5, early Fourth of July sales offer an excellent opportunity to score some new games for cheap.

“Even if you’ve been unable to secure a PS5, it’s still worth taking advantage of some of these savings. Then once you finally get your hands on a console, you’ll already have everything you need,” Mellon said.
